ING DIRECT Realized its Return on Investment With Avatier’s Password Station Within Six Months

ING DIRECT is the United State’s fourth-largest savings bank and its largest online bank. Their goal is to maintain a very high level of operational efficiency, and security is extremely important. They were looking for a way to institute stricter password policies without increasing the help desk workload. The solution also needed to scale with their growing business. The IT team, led by Robert Weaver, Head of IT Security at ING DIRECT, knew they needed a self-service password management solution that was easily accessible to end-users, simple to use, secure, and cost-effective.

The Challenge

ING DIRECT needed to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulations by using a single system to synchronize passwords across all systems and directories. It was important to connect all these directories while still ensuring strong security via strict password policies. The system currently in place was “cumbersome and there was no way to connect all the different directories as changes were made.”

The Solution

ING DIRECT chose Avatier’s Identity Management Suite (AIMS) to create a synchronous password system for their directories. Avatier’s Password Station and Password Bouncer hacking algorithms and strict password requirements insure strong security for ING DIRECT’s systems.
